Monroe Hall, located on the picturesque campus of Loyola University in New Orleans, underwent a transformative exterior renovation designed by Holly & Smith and constructed by Broadmoor, LLC. Completed in 2015, this six-story classroom building features a high-performance brick system that carefully balances the timeless appeal of traditional brick with modern design innovations.

A High-Performance Brick System

The project utilized extruded bricks from Wienerberger of Austria and Telling, delivering a façade that harmonizes with the architectural identity of the campus while showcasing standout quality. The scope of work involved a complete replacement of the exterior façade over a five-year period, ensuring meticulous attention to detail and durability.

A notable design feature is the use of aluminum profiles at corners and openings, introducing a contemporary touch that complements the building’s traditional aesthetic. Installed by Rush Masonry, the system reflects both craftsmanship and innovation, ensuring a flawless result.

Benefits Of The Rainscreen Brick System

The renovation of Monroe Hall incorporated several key advantages:

  • Lightweight Design: At only 14 pounds per square foot, the brick system reduced structural load while preserving durability.
  • Traditional Aesthetic with Modern Flair: The use of aluminum profiles added a contemporary design element to a classic brick façade.
  • Long-Term Durability: The extruded brick system ensures the building’s exterior will stand the test of time, with minimal maintenance required.
