Located in the heart of Cambridge, MA, 101 Cambridge is a five-story, 160,000-square-foot mixed-use building designed by Torti Gallas and built by Consigli Construction. Featuring underground parking, retail spaces, ground-floor amenities, and tenant-ready life science labs and offices, the 101 Cambridge showcases the adaptability and innovation of the Desana Tru-Brix Rainscreen Brick system.
Why Desana’s Brick Rainscreen System Was The Perfect Fit
The Desana Rainscreen Brick system was chosen for its ability to enhance thermal performance and moisture management while maintaining the aesthetic of a solid brick veneer. Key components include continuous insulation and an uninterrupted air and moisture barrier, ensuring long-term energy efficiency and durability.
The system incorporates one-inch-thick bricks supplied by Glen Gery and a steel backup wall, offering the appearance of a traditional brick façade with a significantly reduced weight of just 14 pounds per square foot. This lightweight design was ideal for the mixed-use structure, providing both structural efficiency and visual appeal.
Benefits Of DURUS System
The Desana Rainscreen system provided several key benefits for the 101 Cambridge project:
- Enhanced Thermal Performance: Continuous insulation improves energy efficiency and occupant comfort.
- Moisture Management: The uninterrupted air/moisture barrier prevents moisture intrusion and helps to ensure long-term thermal performance, sustainability and durability.
- Lightweight Construction: At just 14 pounds per square foot, the system reduced structural loads by more than 600,000 pounds without compromising on aesthetics.
